Indoor plants in our life very often decorate not only living quarters, but also work premises, those in which we spend a lot of our time. Flowers in offices are becoming something much more than interior items, for some they are an outlet in their work, for others they are the pride of the entire office.

When choosing plants for the office, you should first of all pay attention to how suitable your office is for growing plants as a whole: if they smoke incessantly there or the room is too dark even for people, then it is better to place artificial flowers in it.

Flowers for the office, where only artificial lighting

Even if you have very good artificial lighting in your office, it is better to choose shade-tolerant plants:

Aglaonema, maidenhair, aspidistra, angular begonia, eastern biota, helksina, saxifrage, round-leaved peperomia, gray peperomia, blunt-leaved peperomia, bordered dracaena, fragrant dracaena, diffenbachia, clivia, arrowroot, monstera, senolipus, nephrolipus tolmia, tradescantia, fatshidera, fatsia, ficus, climbing philodendron, fittonia, cyperus, chlorophytum, sheflera, eucharis.

These plants tolerate the lack of light to a greater or lesser extent. You can determine whether your plants are comfortable enough with the existing lighting by their appearance. Indoor plants that have enough light have dense green foliage. Some plants with a lack of light may lose variegation, but the crown as a whole remains dense (chlorophytum, begonias, ginura). And some plants lose leaves, bare shoots, but not due to a lack of light, but due to the properties characteristic of their species. This phenomenon is called the tendency to "overgrowth" - when the leaves gradually fly around the lower part of the stems, you have to cut them off and reroot. Such plants include the well-known Tradescantia, some types of acanthus (hypoestes, aglaonema), gesneriaceae (eschinanthus) or begonias, dieffenbachia.

Flowers for an office where it is very light

If the room is light enough, the room is well illuminated by the sun from the window and fluorescent lamps, then you can breed light-loving plants:

Aloe, agapanthus, bouvardia, bilbergia, beloperone, ginura, jasmine, zebrina, Japanese camellia, coleus, cacti, sedum, oleander, primroses, livistona chinese, plectranthus, passionflower, spathiphyllum, fuchsia graceful, citrus fruits.

If the windows are south or west, blinds are able to protect plants from burns.

If the windows in the building are French (from floor to ceiling), then the flower pots can be placed on the floor. When the windows are ordinary on the floor, you can only place tubs or large pots with tall plants, such as palm trees, ficus elastica or fragrant dracaena and others.

What plants are not suitable for the office

It is better not to plant plants in the office that require cool maintenance in winter, as they will hurt or lose their decorative appeal. It should be noted that, usually, the office maintains a warm or moderate temperature all year round, i.e. within the range of 20-25 ° C. At this temperature, plants that need a dormant period of 8-10 ° C will shed their leaves, wither or stretch out strongly over the winter.

It is better not to choose plants with falling leaves for the office - these are achimenes, some types of azaleas, wisteria, hydrangea, gloxinia, some types of magnolias, jasmine, myrtle, some varieties of roses, etc. These plants are decorative only a few months a year or are very moody. Many of them need to be provided with proper maintenance during the rest period. As a rule, this is the storage of rhizomes, bulbs or tubers at low temperatures in a dry, shaded room. This requires additional effort or time, and this is not always possible at work.

The specifics of growing or keeping plants in the office are somewhat different than at home. The pros and cons of growing plants in the office, as well as two different views on the same factor, can be summarized as follows:

Benefits of growing plants in offices Problems of growing plants in offices
In an office space, there is often a lot of space and high ceilings - you can set everything up in pots with small flowers, or you can put a couple of large showy plants. In offices, you can allow large plants such as palms or monstera, which are not always convenient to grow at home. At the same time, very often plants find themselves "on the move" - in passages or near doors, where they can be regularly touched and injured. Plants are more likely to be exposed to drafts from constantly opening and closing doors and regularly ventilated areas.
Plants can be observed most of the day, if you are a big fan of flowers, you will always find time and funds from public money to take care of your pets. When doing business, you can simply forget to check how the plants are feeling. Sometimes we are too busy at work, and when it is discovered that half of the plants in the office are affected by the scabbard, it is too late.
You can provide the plant with additional lighting, because most offices are well lit with fluorescent lamps, in addition, sufficient lighting can be maintained at all times throughout the year. It also happens that the office windows are too sunny, in this case blinds can serve as shading, or you can place the plants away from the window, and in winter, when the sun is not so hot, on the contrary, move the plants closer to the window.
The temperature and humidity of the air in office buildings in winter can be completely different, not everywhere there are central heating batteries, and in a large room it is not always as hot as it can be in apartments. Constantly switched on air conditioners can have an adverse effect on plants not only by too hot or cold air, but simply by the strong wind generated from it.
Plants in offices, especially when there are many of them, not only decorate the room, but also improve the air. True, in order to grow useful plants, such as conifers, you need to devote a lot of time to them and create optimal conditions, in particular, maintain high humidity. Unfortunately, in some offices it is customary to smoke, and this harms not only human health, but also plants. In addition, the office space may not be in a residential area, where the air is cleaner, but in an industrial or industrial center, where the air is too polluted by emissions for especially delicate plants.

After the plant is selected according to the state of illumination, you need to determine the humidity of the air, this is probably the second most important factor.

While at home you can humidify the air in different ways, in the office they are not always available. It may not be possible to spray the plants several times a day, or hang the battery with wet towels, then it is better to put the pots of plants on wide trays with water or wet pebbles. You can use pet trays for this. They have a grate, so you don't have to put stones.

In hanging pots, you can overlay moisture-loving plants with moss and keep it moist.

Of course, if there is not enough space in the office, then most of the plants hang on the walls, and there is no place to put the pallets, in this case, you can breed those plants that do not require high air humidity or tolerate dry air: Aloe, Aspidistra, Bokarnea, Gasteria, Hydrangea, hibiscus, ginura, wild rose, kalanchoe, callistemon, desert cacti, clivia, euphorbia, sedum, oleander, some types of peperomia, radermacher, rosheya, strelitzia, sansevieria, stapelia, stephanotis, sparmania, euphorbia, tolmia, chliphavitumatu, eucharis, ficus, yucca.
