Lantana care

In general, lantana is very undemanding, in natural conditions, in countries with warm climates, it grows without problems on nutritious loamy soil, like our nettle. But when growing lantana at home, there may be problems with a lack of light and space. The plant needs space, a cool wintering and watering, depending on the growth rate.

Temperature: moderate, in winter in the range of 14-16 ° C, but not below 12 ° C.

Lighting: lantana is photophilous, prefers bright diffused light, protected from direct sunlight during hot times of the day, i.e. at noon.

Watering: abundant in spring and summer, so that the top layer of the earth has time to dry out before the next watering. Intensively growing plants are watered more abundantly. In the middle of summer or when the temperature drops, when the pots are on the balcony, growth slows down, water a little less often. In winter, watering is very moderate, with good drying of the earth, the colder the temperature of the content, the more rarely watering.

Top dressing: from May to August, lantana is fed every 2 weeks with a complex fertilizer for decorative flowering plants, for example, Fertika-Lux.

Humidity: Although lanthanum spiky is quite resistant to dry air, it can sometimes be sprayed for hygienic purposes.

Transfer: annually in spring - in March. In spacious pots with good drain holes. Drainage to the bottom of the pot is about 2 cm. Soil: 2 parts of light turf, 1 part of leafy soil, 1 part of humus, and 1 part of sand. You can add a few pieces of birch charcoal.

Reproduction: semi-lignified cuttings, which are cut in August from the shoots of the current year. The cuttings should be about 10 cm long, a couple of the lower leaves are cut off, and placed in pots of wet peat under a jar for rooting, which is periodically raised for airing. It is not difficult to grow lantana from seeds: sowing in March, germinating at a temperature of 20-22 ° C. Seedlings appear in 10-14 days. When 3-4 true leaves are formed, they dive into separate cups. Then there are two options: to supplement the light so that the seedlings do not stretch out or rearrange to a cooler place, where it is 14-15 ° C. The second transplant in May, you can take the plants out into the garden or define them in a permanent place on the window.
